Terrex Seismic will undertake its first international contract in nearly 15 years when it joins a Canadian company’s natural gas exploration program in Papua New Guinea. Terrex has been contracted by Advance International Exploration (AIE) to complete a 2D Seismic Survey in the Western Province of PNG. The company is already mobilizing its team and equipment, with three Vibroseis vehicles, several containers of equipment and a team of Australian staff readying for a month-long deployment from September. Terrex Seismic chief executive Rick Dunlop said the contract was a milestone for the company’s international market and operational development. ‘‘As we have upgraded our Australian fleet and worked hard on operational efficiencies, it’s become clear our services are a cost effective and high-productivity option for near-shore markets,’’ he said. The ability to conduct 2D seismic work through Vibroseis was not common in PNG, and while there the company would be open to partnering on other opportunities. ‘‘When you move into new jurisdictions, you’re always looking to engage with other companies. A successful campaign may open other opportunities.’’ AIE, based in the Yukon, Canada, has a series of upgraded roads on its Petroleum Licenses (PPLs), located in the vicinity of the P’Nyang Field operated by Exxon Mobil. The Terrex program will comprise approximately 100km of the seismic line, located along the newly constructed roads built as part of the government “Connect PNG” project, to enable safe and efficient work to be completed. Mr Dunlop said a lot of research had gone into the PNG program, and he complimented the efforts of his leadership team and AIE. ‘‘It really is encouraging for us to see our international experience being put to great use. I thank the team for the many hours of work that has gone into this, and that is obviously ongoing with the mobilization under way. ‘‘We look forward to producing positive results for AIE’’ Comments are closed.
